Naturally food accounts for a perfect holiday and be careful not to end up with only spicy food as some people are sensitive to high level of spices. Most cruises and resorts however come with a wonderful chef and so you get to eat whatever you want. Just make sure that you ask for the food not to be spicy and that's it.

The government has enforced guidelines for both divers and snorkelers in Hanifaru Bay. The point is making it possible for both Manta Ray, to feed as they usually do, and people to enjoy this natural activity at the same time. So there are some guidelines but it is possible to snorkel there.

Well as you know they come out hunting at night in organized packs and what they do is they use their blunt heads and elongated bodies to poke at cracks in the coral reefs and sometimes go inside the coral reefs through holes.

The white tip reef shark do tends to come out hunting at the night time which means that they are really lazy in the daytime and rest inside their caves all day. They can do this because they don't really need to swim in order to breathe. The shark is able to pump water over its gills and rest at the bottom of the ocean all day.

Alot of people are not real experts on scuba diving and want to find out about different sites that are famous for their diving but easy to dive in as well. One particular site, Lion's Head is just that kind of dive site. You can see some pretty good grey reef sharks there and some excellent coral formations and colourful reef life. And because Lion's Head is located on the outer reef then diving can also be easy even if the currents are strong.

Pannettone is worldly known for its variety of fish, when you go scuba diving there you can get absolutely marveled by the many different types; you can find Squirrelfish, Angelfish, Fairy Basslets, Butterfly Fish, Scorpion Fish, Coral Cod, Triggerfish, Puffer fish and Pipefish all in various combinations of colours. It is simply the sight to see.

Well the best surf breaks are certainly in the Male Atoll; so if you can find any resort located on the eastern side of the North Male Atoll then you can have access to plenty of excellent surf breaks. Remember that starting April all the way to November is the best season to go surfing.

Not at all! In fact all you really need to know is know how to swim and the rest will take care of itself. For example there are Liveaboard cruise ships that take you to where the whale sharks are and you can jump in with a snorkel and swim with the biggest fish alive.

The Lhaviyani Atoll located at the north of Male is a very good spot to go diving beacuse it is not very frequented by tourists. It consists of 64 islands and only 4 of them receive guests while less than 10 of them are occupied. The Atoll is therefore "fresh meat" as some people might say and an excellent spot to go diving and see the marvels of the Maldives.

When you get to the Male Airport which are the options to get to your resort then?

There are basically two choices to get to your destination once you arrive at the Male International Airport. One is the speedboat which is recommended when you are going to islands that are not very far away from the capital and the other one is the seaplane which is perfect for when you have to travel further into the Maldives. Some resorts offer you their own transport though, for example the One & Only Reethi Rah Maldives offers their guests a yacht that picks them up and takes them to their resort.

The Male International Airport has everything a modern airport needs and its actually quite nice; even though you wont have to spend much time there you can do some duty free shopping, you have internet and even free shower facilities that will make your brief waiting period a comfortable one.

The maldives charge a 12$ tax to every passenger upong leaving the island but it is important to know that this tax may be included on your airline ticket to the Maldives. There is no tax charged when you get there though.

When was it made?

It was actually made in 1966 but it was called the Hulhule Airport because it is actually located in that island that's right next to Male. Yet in 1981 they changed the name to Male International Airport, not the location though. And to this day all international flight to the Maldives go to that airport.

The Meeru Island Resort is certainly one of the most romantic resorts in the Maldives. And i'm not just saying that; in 2009 it won the Trip Advisors: Uk Travelers Choice Award for being one of the top ten resorts in Asia perfectly suited for romance!

Spas in the maldives are amongst some of the best spas in the world; so yeah definately they are all equipped to give you all kinds of massages. I went to a spa in the Maldives and they had the option of "massages of the world" and you can pick the one that you preffer or the one that's suited for you.

Yeah of course they do, sometimes when you are in the resort they have some villas that are facing east and some that are facing west (where the sun sets of course). And so they can give you the option of chosing which one you like the most.

The Maldives are one of the best diving spots in the world so definately the visibility is great when you decide to go scuba diving. Of course there are seasons, basically the monsoon's and this determine which location is better to go scuba diving depending on the time of the year that you decide to go. Right now for example the north and mid atolls are definately the best place to be.

Right now during the north east monsoon it is definately the best time to go scuba diving in the Maldives. Specially in the north and mid atolls there are clear skies, sunshine and calm seas which ensure that the level of visibility is really high, the water is truly great and thus you will be able to spot some of the best marine life in the world.

The more than 1000 islands in the Maldives are divided into atolls which are basically groups of islands that are really close together. There are 19 atolls in total and the city of Male which is counted seperately since it is the capital.

it is certainly harder to dive if the currents are strong, that's why a quick descend is needed if so. So it all depends on how good you are at diving; if you are just beggining then you don't have to worry about that because dive guides will always be with you and will take you to the places where they feel that you can dive.

Being in the Maldives is certainly romantic enough but there are some resorts that are specially known for their intimacy. Such is the Komandoo Resort that has some very special romantic jacuzzi villas that will give you the intimacy, surrounded by paradise of course, that you and your loved one need.

they certainly are, the Maldives resorts are built on islands and most of them are very small, so to use up the space they build bungalows on top of the ocean, with glass floors!, so that you can have a totally next to the water experience. The water bungalows are certainly one the main attractions in the Maldives.

Since nitrox diving is sort of a new thing not every liveaboard out there offers the opportunity, but still there are plenty of liveaboards that are implementing this technique, for example if you go to the maldives dive travel site you will find that some ships do have nitrox diving, like the Carina, The MV Orion (the best), the Galileo, The Nautilus Two and the Stingray... You should definately check it out!

I'm guessing there is more than one, but i know of the Island Hideaway at Dhonakulhi Maldives Spa Resort & Marina (yeah long name i know) but they do offer the opportunity to take you on a sea plane above the most fabolous views of the Maldives just so you can take the most amazing pictures. It is a very dope experience all in all!

People may advice you to drink bottled water especially in the private islands, but if you are in the capital of Male the water from the tap is desalinated so it is ok to drink from the tap. There are also some atolls that offer desalinated water but it's best to ask once you are there.

Actually you are not supposed to feed the fish when you go out snorkeling; it's not that you can't but you shouldn't. You see feeding the fish disrupts the balance of the coral reef ecosystem and that could be harmful to the reef. Just like corals themselves when you go snorkeling in the Maldives it is always recommended to look but not touch.

I guess this is not very big but compared to Maldives island standards it is certainly way bigger than most. The cool thing about this island is that it is connected by causeways to other islands that you can access.

Well in the Maldives there are exactly 1192 islands. Obviously most of them are inhabited and about 100 have resorts in them. Yet some of this inhabited islands can be reched and are so during planned excursions that your resort offers. I don't think you'll get to see them all on one or fifty trips for that matter!

The visibility might not be the best beacuse of the plankton but still you can take a look at many more manta rays than you usually would in other times of the year.

The language spoken in the Maldives is Maldivian Dhivehi which is a dialect of Sinhala; its arabic. Yet english is spoken by most government offcials and by every resort personel or tourist so you really don't need anything else as long as you know english. Of course french, german, italian, japanese and many more are spoken in the Maldives due to the large amount of tourists that come from many of these countries.

There are plenty of PADI certified dive centers in the Maldives; alot of resorts have Dive centers or even offer a guided certified PADI diver to give classes. I went to the Ellaidhoo Tourist Resort and it had this amazing PADI dive center that had even won awards. I certainly got all my techniques from there and became a great diver in a manner of days.

If you have it you can bring it of course; but if you don't then there is no problem. Every resort in the Maldives comes prepare to rent you all the equipment that you need in order to go scuba diving. The Maldives have some of the best spots to scuba in the world and many people that get there don't even know how to dive; but with your gear and your instructor provided by your place of choice you will leave the Maldives as an expert in the underwater marine life.

Now that is a must; specially when you are in the tropics. Rooms on the Liveaboard cruise ships definately have air conditioning, and a fan also. When you are outside, navigating through some of the most beautiful islands in the world you definately don't need anything else; but once inside your room it is nice to have some air conditioning on and just relax and get some rest to enjoy your day.

let's just say that almost all of the Liveaboard cruise ships come with internet access. There are only a couple that don't have internet on board but they are the minority sure enough. When you book your liveaboard holiday just make sure they tell you if they have internet; like i said most will have but there are a couple that don't. Still some people just like to get away from it all; and you will find the Maldives an excellent paradise to forget about the rest of the world.

Now that is something that you shouldn't even doubt! Every cruise ship Liveaboard is pretty much a very good hotel on the inside, some can even be a 5 star hotel. So of course you get your room with bathroom and shower included and many other things that you will apreciatte one you make the Liveaboard your home for a week or two.

If you decide to go on a Liveaboard holiday some beverages are included but not all of them. For example every cruise ship offers you free water, tea and coffee; but the rest you have to buy at the bar on board. Still it is a pretty good deal because everybody knows that if you want some alcoholic drinks you have to pay a little extra; but the essentials are all covered.

Wherever you are staying in the Maldives you can surely find a spa; and these spas usually tend to offer everything you need in orther to get your relaxation and excercise. For example i stayed in a resort that gave free classes of yoga, tai chi, pilates and many more that i just didn't have the time to try. They were all taught by professionals and were just simply marvelous.

Anything you need for any activity that the resort might have to offer you can get it there. For example if you want to go snorkeling or want to play volleyball the resort will get you the ball or rent you the equipment to go snorkeling. This is the same for anything else, basically all you have to do is bring your swimming short and the hotel will take care of the rest!

Well they certainly have their traditions and their religion that honors them so the western world is not that open in the Maldives; nevertheless on certain occations and festivities the maldivians do open up for some pop music and videos that come from the west. For example michael jackson was pretty big on the Maldives. The resorts are another world though; once you are there you have access to TV and internet and you can feel right at home in your tropical paradise.

They have a citizens council which is made up of 48 members that chose the candidates and puts the nominations out for the people to vote. In this case the current president of the Maldives has received a stagering 90% support from the voters which have to be 21 years old to chose their government; so yeah it is a democracy.

Sure you can; if you are an experience diver and have your certification in order then all you have to do is take part of a check dive and then the rest is up to you. I'm guessing the professional would just want to make sure how good you are and then set you free for diving on your own. Of course you can't go anywhere you want, you will have to stay close to the group but have your own trip.

The rainy season is relative; i mean its called rainy season but you still can get many sunny days; it doesnt rain everyday. There are some advantages to going to the Maldives between the months of may to october (which is the rainy season) and those are that you can have more space to yourself, being as there is less people, and prices are certainly lower. Yet the Maldives is an all year round experience.

Almost everywhere you go you can practice some snorkeling. This is easy because snorkeling doesn't require much equipment and the beaches in the Maldives are just perfect for it with amazing coral reefs and crystal clear water. I heard about this Island called Kuramathi Island and it is supposed to be one of the best for snorkeling; it has all the advantages and great house reefs for you to enjoy.

Tropical weather which is hot and humid mostly. Yet this type of weather bothers you when you are surrounded by concrete; but when you are in an island sorrounded by palm trees and pristine beaches and breeze it is really enjoyable.. plus the water is not cold as here in europe, it's a tad warm and very refreshing. Weather is just great for a tropical paradise experience.

Not all Liveaboards come equipped with internet connection; lets face it once you are there in the deep blue sea admiring the paradise and scuba diving everyday, internet is the last thing on your mind. Well i don't know about the best because there certainly are plenty of spa's all over the Maldives in every single resort and ship and i'm guessing they are all pretty good. I went to the Angsana Resort and that one has an award winning spa! I don't know exactly how this awards work but i tell you i had the best massage of my life.

Any resort will give you a huge amount of opportunities for water sports that don't necesarilly have to be below the water. Wake boarding is one of the most popular water sports that you can do in practically every resort on the Maldives. I guess it depends on the location also, but trust me that if you go you will certainly find a way to do some excellent wake boarding while enjoying the view.

All resorts have a pharmacy department and most of them, i would guess all of them, have a doctor on staff just in case anything might happen. It is very unusual to actually need one yet good to know that there is somebody just in case. You have to remember that the Maldives are a top of the notch turistic spot so they are more than equipped over there.

Not at all; it is such a big misconception that all sharks are dangerous to humans, and the whale shark is definately part of this misconception. The Whale Shark is actually quite freindly and gentle with all scuba divers and it represents no threat to humans at all.

A water bungalow tends to be one that has been built above the water, they usually have glass floors so you can check out the fish right below your feet! And a beach bungalow is one that has been built on top of the beach, you dont get to see the fish swim right below you but you do have a spectacular view nevertheless.

People always talk about the Maldives and scuba diving. But what many people dont know is that the islands are pretty good for surfing and windsurfing also. You have to ask around or do some research before you go; but there are many spots that are excellent for windsurfing and sometimes the resort takes you to them.
